Notes on this year's top boys names

Noah becomes most popular boys' name, knocking Oliver off the top spot.

Henry edges Jack out of the top 10, the first time this has happened in nearly 30 years.

Blake, Brody, Kai, Rupert, Tobias and Nathan were new entries into the top 100 for boys' names. First time we've seen Rupert or Brody achieve this level of popularity, with the latter gaining more places than any other name.

Muhammad was the most popular boys' name in four out of nine English regions. While George was the most popular in three, and Arthur and Oliver were the most popular in one region each.

In Wales Arthur, Osian, Dylan and Elis were the most popular names of Welsh origin.

Noah was the most popular baby boy's name in Scotland pushing Jack into second place for the first time in fourteen years. The figures also a wider variety of names than in previous years including nearly 10% of names which were completely unique this year.

Northern Ireland also saw Jack knocked into second place but this was to give way for James. Noah wasn't far behind followed by another rising star throughout the UK - Theo.
